Raphaël Danchin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Raphaël Danchin is a French mathematician.

Danchin graduated from École Polytechnique in 1993 and received his DEA in Mathematics from the University of Paris-South in Orsay in 1994 . He received his doctorate in 1996 under Jean-Yves Chemin at the École Polytechnique (Analysis numérique et harmonique d'unproblemème de mécanique des fluides). In 2001 he completed his habilitation at the University of Paris VI , where he has been doing research at the Laboratory for Numerical Analysis for the CNRS since 1997 . In 1999/2000 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study . He has been a professor at the University of Paris-East Val de Marne ( Université Paris-Est Créteil Val-de-Marne ) since 2002 . From 2005 to 2017 he also taught part-time as Chargé de Cours at the École Polytechnique.

He deals with mathematical methods in hydrodynamics, for example Fourier analysis methods for example in the Navier-Stokes equations (for example with variable density), but also with Euler equations, Gross-Pitaevski and Korteweg equations (for liquids with phase transitions).

From 2011 to 2016 he was a junior member of the Institut universitäre de France. In 2009 he received the Prix Maurice Audin .

He is the son of the geneticist Antoine Danchin .
