Raphaella Spence

Raphaella Spence (* 1978 in London ) is a British painter and one of the most important representatives of photorealism .

Raphaella Spence was born in London in 1978. Shortly thereafter, her family traveled to France , where she spent the first nine years of her life. In 1988 the family returned to London. Spence was already painting in her childhood and her first still lifes were created during the London years . Until the age of twelve, when the family moved to Italy to live permanently, Spence was tutored exclusively by tutors and her mother. Spence attended school for the first time in Italy and graduated from the St. Georges English School in Rome . Spence owes a very individual and independent development to the unusual fact that she was raised exclusively by parents and private tutors, which is expressed in her later works. At the beginning of her painting career, Spence was primarily concerned with landscape painting and paid particular attention to the landscape of Umbria . Her paintings became more and more detailed and the first photo-realistic landscapes were soon created. In the year 2000 the work of Spence was given a first solo show in Italy; From then on she was perceived by the public as an aspiring artist. In 2003 Spence was invited to New York, where a second solo show was dedicated to her in the Bernarducci Meisel gallery . Since then, her works have been shown in several group and solo exhibitions. Her works are considered with great interest in journals and magazines; for example at International Herald Tribune , The Spectator, The English Home, Arte di Giorgio Mondadori, Panorama , La Republica, Corriere della Sera or Il Messaggero . Her pictures can now be found in private, public and corporate collections in the USA, Canada, England, Russia, Italy, Austria, China and Germany.
