Breeding area

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The breeding area of a bird species or population is the area in which it occurs as a breeding bird, i.e. where it breeds regularly . A distinction is to be made between these areas in which the species stays outside the breeding season, called wintering areas for migratory birds in the temperate and cold zones , and possibly resting areas in between . The breeding areas of the extreme long-distance migratory arctic tern are predominantly in the ( sub ) Arctic , while the wintering areas are in the Antarctic .
