The Rathaus-Galerie Hagen is a shopping arcade at the town hall of Hagen on the tangentials Friedrich-Ebert-Platz, Rathausstraße and Mittelstraße. It was partially opened in October 2014 and completely in November 2014.
The gallery offers 22,000 m² of retail space for a total of 80 shops. The construction costs amounted to 120 million euros. The city administration decided to build a second shopping center in addition to the Volme gallery in order to increase the attractiveness of the Hagen city center for retailers . The investor is the GEDO group; Architects KuBuS Architektur Menschen and Urban Planning, Wetzlar; the company Koprian iQ takes over the administration. The interior includes escalators and atriums . The external dimensions are 150 m by 120 m.
The grand opening on October 14, 2014 failed because of problems with the fire protection technology . Only the Saturn market could open. 60,000 visitors came on the opening day. The first alarm occurred on October 19, 2014. However, the fire department was unable to go to the electronics store for an hour because an incorrectly programmed alarm system blocked the door. On November 13, 2014, the Rathaus Galerie opened completely without any problems or major incidents.
