Town hall in Kahl am Main

The town hall of the Lower Franconian municipality of Kahl am Main is the seat of the municipal administration.

history

The building was erected in 1830 as a customs office. After losing this function, the carpenter Georg Bessenbacher set up an inn there. On April 1, 1870, lack of space led to it being converted into a school building. Bessenbacher received a premium of 4000 guilders for this. Two classrooms, a teacher's apartment and a chaplain's room were set up in the building. In addition, the house received a meeting room for the community.

In 1916 two more rooms were used for the municipal administration, from May 1929 the entire ground floor. Since 1939 the house has been used as a town hall.

description

The house was built from red sandstone . The facade is structured by evenly arranged windows in the arched style.
