Cronenberg town hall

A sandstone relief was recovered from the rubble and is now placed in front of the administration building.

The old town hall of Cronenberg was the landmark of Cronenberg in its time , today a district of Wuppertal . It opened on November 14, 1900. It replaced the previous building, built in 1875/76, which can still be found today in the main street in Cronenberg (No. 61). This building had become too small due to the strong growth of Cronenberg.

The foundation stone for the new building was laid on May 14, 1899. It was built in the neo-Gothic style according to plans by the architect Wilhelm Haase , who later became the city architect . The cost was 195,000 gold marks . The inauguration took place on November 10, 1900 under Mayor Albert Kemmann .

The town hall burned down completely on the night of the bombing from June 24th to 25th, 1943, the remains were torn down in 1953. The central bus stop in the center, however, still bears the name Cronenberg Rathaus to this day .

On May 8, 2011, the old tower cross of the destroyed town hall was made available to the public again and placed in front of the first Cronenberg town hall on the corner of Hauptstraße / Herichhauser Straße.

The town hall cross was recovered in 1953 when the rubble was cleared and kept by Horst Donner. In 2002 the cross was handed over to the Cronenberg Citizens' Association.
