Ratskeller Vetschau
The Ratskeller Vetschau is a listed building in Vetschau / Spreewald .
History and architecture
The Ratskeller was built around 1890 by the Griebenow family on the town's market square ( Markt 5 ) as a plastered brick building. The roof is designed as a mansard roof . There is a wooden gallery in the yard of the property. The Griebenow family then donated the house to the city of Vetschau, which used it as the town hall from 1892. In the years 1912 to 1918 major renovations took place. The windows were given round arches. In 1920 the city administration, which had also been housed in other buildings, moved into Vetschau Castle . However, the gastronomic use of the Ratskeller continued.
After the political change in 1989, extensive renovation work was carried out. A modern extension was built on a neighboring property in 1994/95. The building was then used as a restaurant and accommodation facility. The Ratskeller was closed at the end of September 2011, and the operator filed for bankruptcy. The city of Vetschau was considering buying the Ratskeller.
