The Rawit Pengukir is a double knife from Sumatra .

description

The Rawit Pengukir is a so-called "double knife", which means that two knives are always carried together in one sheath . It has two different blades:

  1. The blade is slightly wider from the end of the tang. The cutting edge is S-shaped and the back of the blade is straight. The place is worked slightly bent. The hilt is made of wood or horn , slightly thicker on the blade and narrower towards the pommel. The pommel is rounded. The booklet is wrapped with rattan ribbons for stabilization and decoration. It is slightly larger than the hilt of the second blade.
  2. The blade is the same width from the handle to the location. It has a slight central ridge. The back of the blade and the cutting edge run parallel. The place is slightly rounded. The booklet is also made of wood and is made in the same way, but overall a bit smaller and thinner. The pommel is flattened.

At first glance, the exercise books look as if they were made of bamboo . The scabbards are usually made of wood. The Rawit Pengukir is used by ethnic groups from Sumatra.
