Jacques-Louis David : Julie Récamier on a Récamière, 1800

A Récamière (also: chaise longue, chaise longue) was originally a combined seat - and lying furniture without back, but from the same high with curved armrests, at the beginning of the 19th century chaise emerged.

The Récamière was named after the French Salonnière Julie Récamier (1777–1849) after it was painted by Jacques-Louis David on it.

This term is used to describe seating furniture that does not have a full backrest or full side rests. So it can be a piece of furniture provided with a backrest, the armrests of which are only indicated.
