The Red Cross Monument (German: Rot-Kreuz-Denkmal ) is a memorial in the inner city of the Liberian capital Monrovia . It is in the center of Broad Street in the Capitol Hill neighborhood across from the National Museum .

The monument, framed by a low wall, was erected on a strip of green between the lanes. The lettering is on the wall:

" 50th Anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, Jun. 12, 1949–1999 "

The actual monument shows a globe girded by a ribbon made from all national flags . In front of it, a group of six people - from all parts of the world - in the form of mercenaries , child soldiers and militiamen, point with outstretched arms at the globe.

The monument was erected in 1999 with the help of the International Committee of the Red Cross to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1949 Geneva Convention .

The memorial is a memorial to the history of the Liberian civil war .
