Red Man is a brand of chewing tobacco .

production

Red Man has been made since 1904. Initially, Pinkerton Tobacco was a manufacturer in Owensboro, Kentucky . The company was bought by Swedish Match in 1985 . The chewing tobacco was only sold in the southern states and the Midwest of the USA, but after the great sales success it was expanded to the entire USA from 1954 and is even exported today.

There are currently five different types available:

  • Red Man Original
  • Red Man Select (less cute)
  • Red Man Golden Blend (more nicotine)
  • Red Man Totems (Golden Blend in the form of a small bar)
  • Red Man Silver Blend (Regular without sugar and with artificial sweeteners)

The chewing tobacco is sold in so-called "pouches", i.e. packets, and its appearance is reminiscent of wet autumn leaves, as the tobacco leaves are only roughly shredded. This is where the name "loose-leaf" comes from. However, "plugs" are also available, in which the loose scraps of leaf are pressed into a bar. According to the manufacturer, a pouch contains three ounces , which corresponds to about 85.5 grams.

health

Like all tobacco products, Red Man is suspected of being harmful. However, the harmfulness to cigarettes, smokeless tobacco or other chewing tobacco is significantly lower. Red Man Regular has 1.8 ppm of carcinogenic substances, a Marlboro cigarette around 12 ppm and Smokeless Tobacco between 7.5 and 12.8 ppm. Beech Nut chewing tobacco contains 4.5 ppm of carcinogenic substances. However, the nicotine contained in Red Man can also lead to cardiovascular problems, like all products that contain nicotine.
