Redemption Grace Period

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The English Redemption Grace Period (RGP) describes the waiting period after the deletion of a domain name , during which the domain can be reactivated (restored) by the administering Domain Name Registry .

Goal, start and duration

The RGP reduces the risk of losing an accidental, erroneous or unauthorized domain deletion and the associated risk: Domain grabbing .

As a rule, the RGP begins immediately after the deletion has been carried out. The duration of the RGP depends on the administering registry and on the domain ending ( top-level domain ).

Restoration

The previous domain owner can request the restoration (also called restore) of a domain from the previous domain registrar against payment of a restore fee.

Special feature of the RGP for .DE domains

The RGP grace period is 30 days from deletion of the domain. After the end of the RGP, the domain can be freely registered by anyone. The restoration of a deleted .DE domain can only be carried out by the administrating registrar. If this cannot be reached or if the provider does not support recovery, the domain can be reactivated using the Authinfo2 procedure, in which Denic sends an Authinfo2 code to the previous owner by registered mail. The LINEST starts again when the Authinfo2 code is generated. With the help of this code, the domain can be restored with any provider.
