Rubbing (from Middle High German rīben, “rub, grind, grind to a powder, rub in”) is in the most general definition a physical process in which a physical object on its surface is in contact with its surroundings and moves relative to it. The physical effect of friction occurs here. In general, this can take place in any natural environment or in any technical system. The process can also be carried out consciously, for example by a person; by moving an object along another using a certain pressure. If this activity is used to manufacture or process an object, rubbing is a process or part of such a process . Specifically, in the manufacturing technology rubbing is a metal-removing fine machining method of workpieces made of metal or plastic.

Procedure

A wide variety of materials can be processed with rubbing; for example to clean textiles (stain removal) or to design the surface of house walls ( rubbing plaster ).

manufacturing engineering

In metalworking, reaming is a cutting manufacturing process for the fine machining (finishing) of workpieces made of metal or plastic. The process is used to produce precisely fitting holes with a high surface quality.
