Friction pressure
A friction print is a copy of a wood or metal cut made without the use of a printing press . The process is comparable to Chinese stone rubbing .
The moistened paper is placed on the printing block and rubbed with the help of a rub. In the past, leather pouches filled with animal hair were used as graters. If one uses brushes as a grater, one speaks of brush pressure .
The technique of friction printing only allows printing on one side of the paper, since printing on the 2nd side would smudge the already printed side.
