Series set (typography)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The series sentence is a sentence technique for creating simple tables as a preliminary stage to the table sentence .

description

On a typewriter , serial typesetting is realized using lines of text with words and numbers aligned with tab stops . In the same way, the series set can be implemented in word processing programs and DTP or layout programs. Aligning text with spaces is only usable on the typewriter or when using a non-proportional font .

The transition from the series sentence to the table sentence is fluid. More complex tables, e.g. B. with lined or multi-line cells, should be created with a table editor.

Quote

Originally, information placed one below the other in lines was referred to as a series set:

"Series sentence: the listing of names, goods, groups of words that belong together. Occurs in directories, table columns, dictionaries, etc. The second and further lines of each group are indented a little. "
