Row school

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Row school was the name given to a type of school that was practiced from the 17th century to the 19th century. In this type of class or school, the teacher came to the villages according to a plan and held classes in different houses .

From the report of a teacher Kramer in 1833 about the school conditions in Obereinzingen :

There is no school of its own. The row school goes around with the landlords and is held in their living room. The teacher lives with the landlord on whose yard the school is held. There he is to have his own bed in his own room. He also receives lunch. "

Every year, the school takes place on one of the farms, which are more or less central within the village. With the exception of the host, all farmers with school-age children had to deliver or pay the teacher bread, butter and school fees.
