Pure Church of Christ

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pure Church of Christ ( English Pure Church of Christ ) was the first split in Mormonism . The church was a split from the church of Christ .

The Pure Church of Christ was organized in Kirtland , Ohio . Its founders were Wycam Clark, Northrop Sweet and four others. They believed that Joseph Smith was a false prophet. The members of this church had few meetings and soon separated. According to speeches by George A. Smith in the Mormon Journal of Discourses , the Church never had more than six members.

After George A. Smith, Wycam Clark was baptized at the same time as Sidney Rigdon . He and another follower of Joseph Smith named Northrop Sweet and four other unidentified people are responsible for the founding of the Pure Church of Christ .

At the time of the establishment of the Pure Church of Christ , attempts were made to take possession of a meeting place for the congregation. A crowd of people gathered on a farm owned by Isaac Morley . They have been baptized but have not yet been taught their duties. These people claimed that they were ruled by a spirit, that they had seen angels, and that letters came down from heaven.

After hearing about these events, Joseph Smith went to Kirtland to show these Mormons that they were mistaken. When Joseph Smith taught these Mormons the true nature of the Spirit and the distinction of spirits, many withdrew from the newly established Pure Church of Christ . Among these was Wycam Clark who claimed he was the prophet and true revealer. Clark had organized the Pure Church of Christ and arranged meetings and sermons.
