Susan Easton Black

Susan Easton Black (* 1944 as Susan Lindsay Ward ) is a former professor of church history and teaching at Brigham Young University . She is also the author of several books on Joseph Smith and the early history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints .

Professional career

Black holds a Doctor of Education degree from Brigham Young University . She joined the faculty of the university in 1978. Black received the Karl G. Maeser Award in 2000. She also served as an assistant dean of the university's education department.

In 2009, Black was a Founder of the ecclesiastical Nauvoo University . This university was intended to be the successor to the University of Nauvoo founded by Joseph Smith . Smith University had to close after his murder and the flight of the Mormons west. However, the new Nauvoo University also had to close in 2010.

Personal life

She was married to Harvey B. Black, a professor of psychology and technology at Brigham Young University , until his death.

In 2013 she married George Durrant , with whom she served a church mission in the Nauvoo Temple . She then served on several historic church missions in St. George, Utah .
