Sutopo Purwo Nugroho (2017)

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho (born October 7, 1969 in Boyolali ; † July 7, 2019 ) was an Indonesian civil protection spokesman . He was widely respected in Indonesia for his role in announcing tsunamis and other catastrophic events.

Life

Nugroho came from a poor family in central Java . As the best of his year, he completed a geography degree. He initially refused to speak for the BNPB disaster control authority for a long time, pointing to the lack of communication background , but finally took on this role in 2010.

Nugroho had had lung cancer since 2018 , but that didn't stop him from reporting even from the bedside.

Act

Regardless of the time of day or night, it was always Nugroho's words that informed the Indonesian population quickly, reliably and on the basis of solid data about disasters, be it via messages in traditional or social media. In 2018, for example, he provided information about the Lombok earthquake , the Sulawesi earthquake and the tsunami on Java and Sumatra . To increase attention, he sometimes made use of humorous allusions and poetic language.
