Reinhard Nitzsche (born October 30, 1936 in Neukirchen , Merseburg district ) is a German chemist .

Reinhard Nitzsche studied chemistry from 1954 to 1960 at the Technical University of Chemistry Leuna-Merseburg with a diploma in the field of electrochemistry at the Institute for Physical Chemistry under Rolf Landsberg . After working as an assistant and doing a doctorate, also in the electrochemical field at the same institute in Merseburg, he began working in high pressure polymer research with Manfred Rätzsch in the Leuna Works in 1964 . Until 1976 in Leuna he was responsible for the technological development and further development of the high-pressure polyethylene process, which from 1969 onwards in cooperation with the Soviet Union to set up the 50 kt / a plant "Polymir 50" in Novopolozk in Belarusand the 60 kt / a plant "Poymir 60" in Leuna. 1976–1980 he was department head of high pressure polyethylene synthesis, 1981–1984 research director and 1985–1990 production director at the Leuna works. He ended his work at the Leuna Works at the end of 1991 as head of the Miramid (polyamide 6) production department.

As an author and co-author, he has contributed to numerous publications and over 80 patents.

In 1970 he and others received the National Prize for Science and Technology 1st Class, in 1976 also collectively the State Prize of the USSR and in 1981 the Honored Inventor Award . From 1988 to 1990 he was chairman of the Chemical Society of the GDR.
