Rice (unit)
The rice , Ries , was a measure of a certain number of slate stones for roofing work in Frankfurt am Main .
For this purpose, the stones were placed upright and broadly side by side in a row of 8 Werkschuh length. The factory shoe, also called the foot or just the shoe, had a basic length of 12 inches , which corresponds to about 28.5 centimeters . Any number of pieces of slate that were placed in a row was to be assumed with a thickness of 5 to 6 millimeters with 50 to 55 pieces .
