The pull cord is the actuator of the pull cord switch or other mechanism.

Security technology

The rip cords with the rip cord switches are used on machines and systems in order to bring the machines into the emergency stop state from a distance of up to 50 meters . According to an EU regulation , a rip cord must be red.

Parachute

The (non-existent) line attached to the parachute's deployment handle is colloquially referred to as the rip cord .

balloon

In the case of gas balloons , the corresponding device is also called a tear device . This consists of a tear strip with which, after landing, a segment of the track glued through a slot in the cover , the tear strip , is torn off. This allows the balloon to be emptied quickly, e.g. B. to prevent drifting off the landed balloon.

Phrase

As a saying , “pulling the rip cord” means trying to slow down or stop a threatening or harmful development.
