The Rem , unit symbol rem (for English roentgen equivalent in man ) is the outdated unit for the equivalent dose , originally derived from the unit for the ion dose x-ray .

It was replaced on January 1, 1978 by the SI unit Sievert (Sv) and should no longer be used after the end of the transition period since January 1, 1985. However, there are still older measuring devices in circulation that have this unit.

1 rem corresponds to 10 millisieverts.
1 Sievert corresponds to 100 rems.
