Remington (record company)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Remington is the name of the American record company founded by Donald H. Gabor , which existed from 1950 to 1957.

It was founded when Gabor and his employees bought the vacant factory premises of the Webster Manufacturing Co. and, after previously working for the “Continental” label (where he recorded Béla Bartók , among others ), now founded his own company.

Remington has released numerous recordings by great classical artists, especially pianists , but used comparatively inferior vinyl to make the records to save money. Many surviving copies have therefore been damaged by playing them back, and the sound quality of their playback left a lot to be desired even in their own times.
