René Thomas (March 7, 1886 - September 23, 1975 ) was a French racing car driver and aviation pioneer.

Aviator

From around 1910 he flew for the Société Antoinette as a test pilot and took part in various European competitions. In October 1910 Thomas collided in Milan with the Farman III - Double Decker Captain Bertram Dickson , which it never recovered.

Racing career

As a leading racing driver in his country, he joined the team set up by Louis Delâge in 1911 with Paul Bablot , Albert Guyot and Victor Rigal . In 1914 Thomas took part in the Indianapolis 500 on a Delage and won. He also took part in 1919 , 1920 and 1921 .

On July 6, 1924, René Thomas set a land speed record of around 230 km / h on a Delage in Arpajon .
