Renate Zwicker-Pelzer

Renate Zwicker-Pelzer is a German professor of education and counseling. She is a qualified social pedagogue , qualified pedagogue , supervisor (DGSF / DGSv), family therapist and teaching counselor (DGSF).

Professional background

After studying social pedagogy from 1974 to 1990, Zwicker-Pelzer worked as a social pedagogue and after completing her part-time studies in educational science as an educational advisor in the youth association, as a lecturer for didactics / methodology in social pedagogy and as a pedagogical employee in youth and adult education. In 1992 she received her doctorate as Dr. phil. at the University of Kassel . From 1990 to 1994 Zwicker-Pelzer worked in marriage, family and life counseling, in family therapy, in family education projects and as a lecturer at the Siegen University with a focus on "social work with individuals and families". In 1994 she was appointed professor for educational sciences and mainly taught "Basics and Concepts of Social Work" at the Catholic University of North Rhine-Westphalia in Aachen. There she founded and coordinated the first part-time course of the Catholic University for "Women in addition to family work" in social work. In 2004 she moved to the health care department as a professor of counseling and education, and from 2007 to 2009 she was dean of the department. Since 2008, Zwicker-Pelzer has been the head of the “Master of Counseling, Marriage-Family Counseling” program at KatHO NRW.

Participation in committees, institutes and professional associations

In 2004 Zwicker-Pelzer became a founding member and board member of the DGfB (German Society for Advice / Counseling). Since 2003 she has been working in the field of developing standards for counseling as a professional policy advisor for counseling and is currently the 2nd chairwoman of the DGSF (German Society for Systemic Therapy, Counseling and Family Therapy). She is a member of the VHBC (Association of University Lecturers for the Promotion of Counseling / Advice) and a member of the DGSv (German Society for Supervision) and a member of the Paulo Freire Cooperation eV. a. at the Cologne Institute for Consulting & Educational Professionalization. She also accompanies research projects of the German Institute for Applied Nursing Research (DIP) in Cologne with regard to advising relatives.
