Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale

The Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale ( Rencontre for short , also RAI ) is the world congress for representatives of ancient Near Eastern studies (in Germany also out of date Assyriology ) and Near Eastern archeology .

The Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale was founded on the initiative of a group of French scholars. In 1950, representatives of the ancient oriental sciences met for the first time after the Second World War . Since then, the congress has taken place almost annually in the centers of ancient oriental research, in Paris, London, Rome, Leiden, Chicago, Philadelphia and Cambridge (USA) and several times in Germany.

The congress usually lasts five days and usually has a specific topic on which lectures and workshops are offered. The contributions to the Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale will then be published in a conference proceedings .
