Renner was a discount grocery store run by Julius Meinl AG .

Renner emerged from the Denner discount after the Swiss chain store Denner withdrew from Austria in 1979 and sold its stores to Julius Meinl. In 1990 Julius Meinl sold around 20 stores to Spar , which they integrated into their existing branch system. Meinl undertook another unsuccessful entry into discounting in Austria in 1997 when he founded the discounter Jééé .
