Zoff im Zoo is a card game by Doris Matthäus and Frank Nestel , in which the players have to outbid the previously placed cards by cleverly playing their cards .
Game flow
A game is made up of several games, with as many games being played until one or more players reach a certain number of points.
At the beginning of a game the 60 playing cards are dealt face down to the players. The primary goal is to be the first to be able to completely discard the cards, whereby each player in turn may discard one or more cards of the same animal species. Furthermore, the laid animals must be able to “drive away” the previously laid animals. To do this, either the number must be one animal higher (three lions drive away two lions) or the animals placed afterwards must be the same number placed in accordance with the markings on the cards and fear the animals previously placed (two hedgehogs are afraid of two foxes).
The resulting hierarchy of animals is partly structured cyclically: Most animals are afraid of elephants, which, however, are afraid of mice. However, these can again be driven away by most other animal species. Only orcas have no feared opponents, one or more such cards can only be driven away by a higher number of them.
Can not or will a player who last played Animals not drive, he must adapt . If all other players have passed in turn, the player who took the turn takes the cards on display as a trick and can play again with any animal species.
It is played until only one player has cards in hand. After completing a game, points are awarded for quickly discarding the cards and for special animal species in your own tricks.
Advanced rules
An extension of the rule stipulates that after the first game, teams are formed for the other games . Depending on the current number of points, there are partners who can swap two cards after the deal and, under certain circumstances, support each other during the lead.
graphic
In addition to the actual gameplay, the game also lives from the loving illustration . The drawings by Doris Matthäus show a typical comic style , which can also be found in the games she illustrates, Ursuppe and Arche Optimix .
