Race engineer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A racing engineer , or vehicle manager, is the direct technical contact for drivers in professional motorsport . He acts as a middleman between the driver and the team with regard to the coordination of the racing car. The coordination of the chassis and aerodynamics , the selection of tires and the definition of the racing strategy are the tasks of the racing engineer.

Race simulations, telemetry and data evaluations as well as technical preparations for race weekends such as the basic set-up of the vehicles, with which the first training session, is done by the race engineer. He coordinates the work on the vehicle and usually has other engineers available for the engine, transmission and chassis. The mechanic crew, which is usually led by a chief mechanic, reports to him.

The race engineer reports directly to the technical director or the team manager. He gives suggestions for the further development of the racing cars and works out new racing strategies.
