The (Great) Rensinger Lake is the larger of two caused by clay mining lakes in Kellinghusener district Rensing. To distinguish the two lakes are also called small and large Rensinger lake . The Rensinger See was recognized on June 30, 1997 as a natural experience area .

Sound degradation

Perhaps as early as the Middle Ages, but no later than the 18th and 19th centuries, clay was mined in Rensing for the Kellinghusener faience factories and the local brickworks. Later the Alsen cement factory covered part of its clay needs from the clay deposits there. The little clay pit was the older of the two pits; mining in the large clay pit did not begin until the early 1950s. The brickworks, located on the edge of the large clay pit, ceased operations after a major fire in 1960.

Waters

The small clay pit had already filled with groundwater in the 1930s and was leased to anglers by Alsen in 1934. The large clay pit filled with groundwater between 1960 and 1966 and was then officially named Rensinger See by the city of Kellinghusen . Both brick lakes are leased today by the Kellinghusen Association of Sports Anglers.
