Republic of Ireland Act

The Republic of Ireland Act ( Irish Eight Phoblacht na hÉireann ) was a law of the Irish Parliament (Irish: Oireachtas Éireann ), which was passed in 1948 and came into force on April 18, 1949.

It stipulated that the official name of Éire should be Republic of Ireland . Ireland officially became a republic and withdrew from the Commonwealth of Nations .
