Republic of Rome is a complex strategic board game by Richard Berthold and Robert Haines published by Avalon Hill in 1990 . The players take on the role of a senatorial family in ancient Rome , whose wealth they have to increase, while events from the history of the Roman Republic, e.g. B. Wars, are simulated by the random drawing of event cards. The peculiarity of the game is that the players are forced to cooperate on the one hand in order to survive crises threatening Rome such as wars (if Rome goes under, all players have lost) and to keep the people happy, on the other hand they are also constantly intriguing against each other to keep the game to win.

In 1990, the Republic of Rome received the Origins Award . The game was not translated into German, the English original is no longer available today. In 2007 Republic of Rome was relaunched by the Canadian game manufacturer Valley Games .
