Retention (lat. Retinere "to hold back") stands for:
- Retention (philosophy) , ability of the consciousness to hold onto not only the current perceptions flowing to it, but also perceptions of the immediately preceding moment
- Retention (right) to make use of the right to withhold a service to be provided until a claim has been made to fulfill this service
