Returns processing is the process in the logistics chain ( supply chain ) that is particularly important in mail order business ( online trading or traditional catalog business).

procedure

The process begins with the intended return of an ordered product from a customer . Due to the right of withdrawal, it is possible to send the goods back used to the dealer .

Often these goods cannot be sold immediately as new. Therefore, the returned products are checked and processed, for example by vapor deposition and ironing (in fashion), stain removal, repackaging. This is also called returns processing .

After processing, the products can e.g. B. be sold again as new. Ideally, buyers plan these quantities into account and thereby reduce the total amount purchased .

However, the process doesn't just include returning the item. The goods can also be exchanged directly. In addition, it makes sense to record the reasons for the return in the process in order to provide sales and / or production with data for optimization.

The entire organization of this process is called returns processing .
