RevTeX (proper spelling: ) is a collection of LaTeX - macros . It was designed by the American Physical Society , the American Institute of Physics, and the Optical Society of America to facilitate the publication of their journals. It is maintained by the American Physical Society.

The collection is particularly popular with scholars whose articles appear in the journals of these three organizations. Some other scientific journals also accept REVTeX-formatted manuscripts for electronic publication .

REVTeX v3.1 was released in September 1996. The successor version 4.0 came out in August 2001. However, version 4 is not backwards compatible with version 3. The current version is 4.2 (January 18, 2019).

Originally, REVTeX was designed to be similar to the AASTeX format of the American Astronomical Society .
