"Revo" belay device from Wild Country (Oberalp)

The Revo is a semi-automatic belay device from the Wild Country brand manufactured by Oberalp for sport climbing for belaying with single ropes. It was launched in autumn 2018. The Revo combines the simple and dynamic handling of a tuber with the back-up through a centrifugal brake. One can spend and take rope without resistance. Only when the rope tries to rush through the device at 4 meters per second does it block after a few centimeters.

According to the EN15151-1 standard, the Revo is a “braking device with manually assisted locking” (type 8: “belaying and abseiling with panic locking”). It is suitable for securing the body with a dynamic single rope (Ø 8.5–11 mm), for left and right-handers alike. Abseiling down on a single rope yourself is mentioned in the instructions with restrictions. The device weighs 283 g (the Grigri 2 in comparison 170 g).
