Rhine Valley trilogy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rhine Valley trilogy consists of the novels Schlafes Bruder (1992), Die Luftgängerin (1998) and Die Untouchten (2000) by Robert Schneider .

Origin and first reception

In the press releases on Schlafes Bruder there is nothing to be read about plans for a trilogy. Even in the articles that report on the making of Die Luftgängerin , plans for a trilogy appear late.

The press reaction to Schlafes brother was divided, which helped the book's commercial success. In terms of sales success, the air-walker could not follow up on Schlafes brother and was consistently rejected in the numerous reviews. The Untouched was then reviewed by significantly fewer newspapers, among which few were convinced positive voices.

While larger numbers of explanatory volumes and literary analyzes appeared on Schlafes Bruder , the other two volumes were largely ignored. Very few works consider all volumes of the trilogy in context.

Connecting elements

While the connections (staff, etc.) that are usual in novel trilogies are largely absent and the common Rhine Valley setting is abandoned, especially in The Untouched , one can determine some elements that connect the novels.

Hötzmanseder creates thematic (love, family, music, religion and superstition) and motivic (eccentric, naivete, malevolent friend, Arcadia, life in the Rhine Valley) connections, Hauer also sees parallels between the three works in the treatment of the music or points of demarcation to Schneider's other novels.
