The Magic of Venus is a 1991 film by the Hungarian director István Szabó .

The conductor Zoltan Szanto from Hungary wants the opera in Paris Tannhauser by Richard Wagner perform, to be transmitted in 27 countries. But before he reaches his goal he has to overcome many obstacles, e.g. B. the payment of his fee is delayed again and again, there are language problems with participants from all over Europe as well as union members who strictly adhere to their work schedule and refuse to work overtime.

During this chaotic time, he falls in love with the star of the performance, Karin Anderson, which his wife doesn't like to see. Now Szantó is torn between Karin and his wife. Since Karin, unlike him, wants to have a public relationship, the two only work together on stage.

When the day of the performance came, the performers panic. The television has already set up the broadcast vans, but due to a strike there is no stage setting, which puts the whole performance in jeopardy. So the actors limit themselves to the mere music, forego the scenery and sing in front of the closed curtain, accompanied by the musicians in the orchestra pit.
