Macha Méril (born September 3, 1940 in Rabat , Morocco ; born Marie-Madeleine Gagarine ) is a French actress .

Life

The daughter of the exiled Russian prince Vladimir Gagarine and Marie Belskys came to Paris after the death of her father, where she attended high school and studied literature at the Sorbonne . She took acting classes in Paris and attended from 1960 to 1963 in New York Actors Studio by Lee Strasberg . She got her first film role in 1959. Four years later she appeared in her first Hollywood film, Who slept in my bed? , With. She had her breakthrough in 1964 with Jean-Luc Godard's A Married Woman , for which she received the “Suzanne Bianchetti” award for best young actress of the year. In the Karl May film Der Ölprinz in 1965 she played a settler's daughter. In 1968 she founded her own film production company Machafilm.

Méril also appeared as a book author. In 1982 she published her novel La star . In 1986, she was for the role of Madame Landier in the feature film drama Vogelfrei of Agnès Varda for Best Supporting Actress for a César nomination.

In 2000 she went on an international tour with the play Heiliges Feuer ( Feu sacre ) based on texts by George Sand, which she portrayed, with music by Chopin . In 2006 she presented her latest novel Ce soir, c'est ta fête .

Méril, who was married to the Italian producer and director Gian Vittorio Baldi from 1969 to 1978 , supported Lionel Jospin in the French presidential elections in 2002 and Ségolène Royal in 2007 .

She is the great-granddaughter of the Russian poet Count Vladimir Alexandrowitsch Sollogub .
