A man seeks a woman (Original title: Robert et Robert ) is a French feature film by Claude Lelouch from 1978.

action

The Jewish taxi driver with Egyptian roots Robert Goldman (48) and the former restaurant worker and prospective police officer Robert Villiers (27) have two things in common: They both still live with their mother and are single, which is why they are the woman for life at Jacques Millet's marriage agency hope to find. While Villiers is very shy and almost discouraged, Goldman has very high expectations of his future wife. Both men meet at Millet's institute and start a conversation on the journey home, albeit hesitantly. Both want to meet their proposed wife for the first time at a big weekend ball, but in the end they are the only ones whose selected partners do not appear. Villiers takes Goldman home with him, where they both have a coffee after a bad evening. Villier's mother is irritated because her son had spoken of his girlfriend suggested by the institute as if the two had long been a couple. She now suspects that her son is having an affair with a man. The two different men become friends over time and the otherwise introverted Villiers even manages to pass his driver's license test straight away. He gets into Goldman's business and becomes a taxi driver. Both men are now on their terms and even go to a private club together, which turns out to be too revealing for both of them.

Villiers and Goldman continue to hope to find their wife for life in Jacques Millet's institute. You are therefore taking part in a multi-day stag trip to Millet, in which men have to sit next to women and at the end the right partner is assigned by Millet. Both men give their wives a chance, but in the end Goldman flees from his, while the beautiful but sad Patricia does not want to stay with Villiers. In the end, only one of the fellow travelers is lucky. The Egyptian Ali Salem announces to all the other single people on the bus that he will marry Arlette Poirier, who has been chosen for him. All participants of the bus tour are invited to the wedding. At the celebration everyone has to contribute something to the entertainment. Goldman badly tells two jokes, while Villiers manages to get out of himself and perform a little sketch about Jacques Millet and his dealings with the clients of his institute. The wedding guests are enthusiastic and Goldman has a vision: How Villiers can make the breakthrough as a comedian and fill the largest halls in a very short time; how he met and married a well-known television presenter and how he, Goldman, as Villiers 'manager, ended up starting a relationship with Villiers' mother. Goldman is so impressed by his vision that he spontaneously asks Ms. Villiers while dancing. Patricia, on the other hand, was able to laugh at Villiers' lecture and now has nothing against dancing with him.
