action

As a child, Sam was abandoned by his mother on a carousel. He grew up as an artist in a traveling circus - where he was given the surname Lion because of his desire to sit in front of lion cages for hours - until he had a serious fall during a number and was only used as a cleaner. That leads him to the idea of starting a cleaning company, which he grows into an empire. But when Lion gets old, he no longer likes and wants to get out of this life. His dream is to spend the end of his life in Africa with lions - his name relatives. He pretends to his family that he wants to do a circumnavigation of the world and prepares everything to provide them well with the company. At sea he faked his death and went, as a Belgian and under a new name, via Hamburg to Africa.

There, on the reservation, works Al Duvivier, a former employee of his group. This recognizes him and Lion fears for his camouflage. He is faced with the decision to kill Duvivier or to use him for his own purposes. The latter makes more sense to Lion, and he trains Al in self-confidence. Al and Lion return to France, and Al is supposed to join the company as a skilled cleaning specialist. A letter of recommendation from Sam Lion, which Sam Lion is said to have written down before his disappearance, serves as an entrance ticket. Lion is now staying with Als Familie and is in contact with Al by phone. After the two of Sam's lawyer used a ruse to force Al's hiring, Duvivier befriends Lions children Sophie and Jean-Pierre more and more. Al finds out that Lions company "Victoria" is facing bankruptcy and tries to save the company with Sam's help in the background. He succeeds, and even wins the heart of Victoria, Sam's daughter. But when she proposes to him, Sam's dizziness flies through an imprudence as Als - as a result, Victoria visits Sam's father. Sam can convince her that Al is not just a puppet. Al, who is beside himself, tries - like Lion once before - to compete with the lions in a wildlife park. Victoria reaches Al on time on the car phone and they make up. They get married and have a child together. Sam Lion is now settling in Africa in peace.

criticism

"Lelouch presents itself once again as a mediocre cinema manufacturer with this round of sugar-sweet pictures, covered with sticky music - a particularly unbearable combination when in the end the familiar family idyll is also sold as the destination of all longings."

- epd film 1/1990

“An incredibly shallow cinema conversation. Kitsch, clichés and the soundtrack give the boring film the rest. "
