Going away and coming back (original title: Partir revenir ) is a French film drama by director Claude Lelouch from 1985. It tells the story of a Jewish family in occupied France at the time of National Socialism .
action
During the Second World War , the Lerner family, a Jewish family of four, fled occupied Paris. For a while they can hide with friends in an old castle. Some of the villagers in the area are becoming suspicious. One day French police and soldiers of the Wehrmacht appear on the castle grounds. The learners try to escape, but are abducted. Years later, the daughter, Salomé Lerner, returns as the only survivor of her family. She is determined to find out who denounced her family back then. When Salomé heard a young pianist playing in Paris four decades later, she believed she was facing the reincarnation of her deceased brother.
background
In addition to the family history, the focus is also on the work of the Russian composer Sergei Wassiljewitsch Rachmaninow , especially his 2nd piano concerto . Ironically, he had dedicated this piece to a neurologist who had treated him for depression. In the film, the father is a psychoanalyst by profession.
criticism
"A film that is not quite convincing in terms of its staging, which dispenses with a linear story and fades in associative scenes that are mutually dependent," said the film-dienst .
