action

Hungary in the 1960s: the writer Magda ( Martina Gedeck ) moves to Budapest with her husband Tibor (Karoly Eperjes) . She asks her new neighbor Emerenc ( Helen Mirren ) to work for her as a housekeeper , whereupon she reacts dismissively and suspiciously. Although Emerenc finally accepts the job, the two women need a while to warm up to each other. There are always setbacks in their relationship, especially when it comes to Emerenc's own four walls. She has not allowed anyone to enter her home for 20 years. Magda suspects Emerenc is hiding a terrible secret behind her front door and tries to report her. One day Emerenc lets Magda into her apartment and reveals the secret: she has nine cats in her apartment, although the rental agreement only allows two.
