Rhizoplane

Rhizoplane describes a community of extremely metabolic and reproductive bacteria , including Actinomycetales . This community is in very close contact with the fine roots and is located a few μm near the root surface. The soluble carbohydrates , oligosaccharides , organic acids, enzymes , vitamins and growth substances excreted by the roots support the formation of a specific microflora . The mucous covering of the root tips consists of liquefiable carbohydrates and acts as a substrate for the microflora near the roots . The plant benefits from the mutual exchange of substances with the rhizoplane. It receives additional nutrients that are given off by the bacteria. Mycorrhizal fungi act as carriers . The associated microflora also secretes antibiotic substances, which protects the roots of the plant from specific pests. The rhizosphere seamlessly connects to the rhizoplane . The rhizoplane and rhizosphere together form the soil- root interface.
