Rhoadsiinae

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

A now no longer valid (recognized) subfamily of the real tetras (Characidae) was designated as Rhoadsiinae .

features

The species of the Rhoadsiinae are more or less high-backed fish and reach body lengths of 5 to 18 cm. Diagnostic features of the subfamily are the shape of the teeth on the inner premaxillary row with cusps aligned in straight rows and without an anterior indentation, and anterior maxillary teeth with five or more cusps. The rearward-facing outgrowth of the mesethmoid (a skull bone) is just as wide as the side wings of the mesethmoid. In this state, the side wings are not visible as separate structures. Fink & Weitzman mention the proportional elongation of the maxillary and the emergence of conical maxillary teeth during ontogenesis as a further characteristic .

Genera and species

The subfamily today contains eight species in four genera.
