Richard le Despenser, 4th Baron Burghersh

Richard le Despenser, 4th Baron Burghersh (born November 30, 1396 , † between October 7, 1413 and October 7, 1414) was an English nobleman.

Richard le Despenser was a son of Thomas le Despenser, 2nd Baron Despenser and Constance Langley . His father rebelled unsuccessfully against the new King Henry IV in 1399 and was executed as a traitor in January 1400. His possessions were confiscated and his titles were revoked. Richard's mother, Constance, received part of the property back.

Richard inherited the title of Baron Burghersh in August 1409 following the death of his grandmother Elizabeth de Burghersh, the only daughter of Bartholomew Burghersh, 2nd Baron Burghersh . The still minor was married to Eleanor de Neville, a daughter of Ralph Neville, 1st Earl of Westmorland and Joan Beaufort , after May 13, 1412 . On April 8, 1413, he was on the eve of the coronation of Henry V to the Knight of the Bath beaten. He died childless, the exact date of his death is controversial. Possibly he died on October 7, 1413, but at the latest before April 16, 1414, according to other information not until October 7, 1414. He was buried in Tewkesbury Abbey . With him, the le Despenser family died out in the male line. His sister Isabel became his heiress . His widow married Henry Percy, 2nd Earl of Northumberland , after his death in October 1414 .
