The Directive 2000/43 / EC implementing the principle of equal treatment between persons irrespective of racial or ethnic origin , short Racial Equality Directive , a directive of the European Community , which in terms of implementing the principle of equal treatment in the Member States to combat discrimination because of race or ethnic origin.

The term Equal Treatment Directive is sometimes used for this directive , as is also the case for Directive 2004/113 / EC and Directive 2000/78 / EC (Equal Treatment Framework Directive) .

With Directive 2000/43 / EC, the member states are requested to ensure that “all legal and administrative provisions that contradict the principle of equal treatment are repealed” and that “all provisions in individual or collective agreements or agreements that are incompatible with the principle of equal treatment are abolished” -Agreements, company rules, statutes of associations with or without profit-making purposes as well as statutes of the liberal professions and of employee and employer organizations are or can be declared or changed "(Article 16).

The scope includes employment and occupation, the provision of goods and services under civil law, as well as social protection and education.

According to Recital 13 of the Directive, the prohibition of discrimination set out in this Directive also applies to third-country nationals , but not to the different treatment based on nationality and entry, residence and legal status of third-country nationals and stateless persons.

The guideline consists of four chapters. Chapter 1 (Articles 1 to 6) lays down the purpose, definitions and scope of application and contains provisions on essential and decisive professional requirements, positive measures and minimum requirements. Chapter 2 (Articles 7 to 12) regulates legal remedies and enforcement, Chapter 3 (Article 13) specifies bodies involved in promoting equal treatment and Chapter 4 (Articles 14 to 19) contains final provisions.
