Rijn-Schelde Machinefabrieken en Scheepswerven
The Dutch shipbuilding company Rijn-Schelde Machinefabrieken en Scheepswerven NV (RSMS), or Rijn-Schelde or Rijn-Schelde Combinatie for short , existed from 1966 to 1970. The shipyard group was one of the largest Dutch shipbuilding companies.
history
The shipyard group was created on March 4, 1966 through the merger of three shipyards and a shipbuilding company. The following shipyards formed the founding group:
- Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij (RDM) in Rotterdam (together with the subsidiary Machinefabriek en Scheepswerf van P. Smit Jr. in Rotterdam
- Koninklijke Maatschappij "De Schelde" KMS) in Vlissingen
- Motorenfabriek Thomassen te De Steeg in Rotterdam
Two years later, Machinefabriek Breda also joined the group. On July 3, 1968 it was also decided to work with the competitor Dok en Werf Maatschappij Wilton-Fijenoord .
Under pressure from the government, Verolme Verenigde Scheepswerven (VVSW) from Rotterdam , which had got into financial difficulties, joined the group on January 1, 1971, which then traded as Rijn-Schelde-Verolme Machinefabrieken en Scheepswerven (RSV). On April 6, 1983, the RSV went bankrupt. After the bankrupt group was broken up, some viable shipyards continued to operate and others were sold or closed.
