Lecture series

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A lecture series is a special form of lecture . It is a series of lectures in which several different lecturers , mostly from different departments or universities , devote themselves to a specific topic.

The advantage of the lecture series is the variety of perspectives on one and the same subject area. This is also an opportunity to hear speakers who are outside of your own subject area. It is to be distinguished from a colloquium by its somewhat lower demands. It is often offered as Studium generale in order to give an overview to non-specialist subjects.

A university can run a lecture series over several semesters and also make it accessible to the non-university public.
